Advent 2013 10 & Day 11

Day 10 -

  • Bible Story: God to the rescue!
  • Activity: Sponsor kids in need

Day 10's advent activity was a little different. Instead of it being something for Henry directly, we wanted to make this year's advent a little more about what Christmas is about, Jesus and sharing God's love with others. Henry already donated some of his own currency (dojo points) to buying toys for tots. Now we wanted to have him sponsor gifts for kids in need. Samaritan's purse has a variety of needs that people can buy for people all over the world. These range from food to sporting equipment and the web site allows you purchase these donations. We knew Henry is very willing to share but we didn't expect him to be so generous. Originally, we started the "dojo bank" idea for him to save his dojo points because he saw this motorized vehicle at Costco about 6 months ago.  He asked how many dojo points that would be worth! So we told him that he'll have to save up 146 dojo points for that because it was an expensive item. He had been saving his points ever since.  He is close his goal and he has over 100 dojo points in his bank.  Last week, he spent about 30+ of those points on the Toys for Tots gifts.  Today, he spent almost his entire savings buying things for others.  (We think he has about 20 points left now) So proud of our little guy. Today's Jesus story is "God to the rescue!" Henry's Q&A was pushed out till tomorrow but the  question he came up with is "Is Christmas only about Santa?" Answer is "No, Christmas is about Jesus birthday."

Day 11 -
  • Bible Story: God makes a way
  • Activity: Hot chocolate and neighborhood walk to see stars and lights.

Day 11 is Dotahoey Wednesday and it was time to have some hot chocolate and do a neighborhood walk to see some Christmas lights and decorations. At Rivermark, there is a well known block that won best neighborhood in last year's holiday decoration contest. After meeting Auntie Annie, Auntie Marilyn and Evan for dinner at Prolific Oven, we grabbed some hot chocolate from Peet's and started our walk. It's been freezing cold this past week but we were bundled and ready to go. It was much nicer this year since there was no rain and we had fun finding decorated houses and snapping some pics. The Jesus story for today is "God makes a way." Henry's Q&A question is "What are some ways we can celebrate Christmas?" Answer is "We can help others in need!"
